iShare – Content Sharing Platform from Rediff
Rediff.com – one of India’s fastest growing online portal site has launched a social networking site called iShare. According to rediff.com “iShare is a social content-sharing platform to publish and share videos, music and photos”. It is the first Indian site which enables you to share your videos, photos and music under one roof. This Orkut- YouTube combo hopes to be a great success among Indians especially consumers to market their online entertainment data across India. They also make the uploading and sharing process easier by providing an uploading tool called iShare desktop tool, with which you can upload unlimited files since you have unlimited storage from rediff.com. However you can upload only five files at a time with a limit of 50 MB per file for video files and 10MB per file for audio files.
Some of the features like private and public which are already being used by Myspace help protect the privacy for our data. Currently they support jpg, jpeg, gif, giff, png & bmp photo formats. While mp3, wma, wav & aiff audio formats along avi, wmv, mpg, 3gp, 3gpp, mp4, divx, dat, dv, mov, qt & asf videos formats are said to be supported.
Other notable web 2.0 features included tagging for better usability. In order to access the site, you’ll need a Rediff ID (which can be otherwise created for free). All-in-all, I think iShare gives all the features of YouTube and Picasa including features like embedding of video, music and image in your site or blog. Click here to sign-up for iShare
In other Rediff news, Hindustan Times is reporting that big players like Google and Yahoo are eyeing for a possible acquisition of Rediff. With the recent increase in stock prices, Rediff is said to valued nearly 1 billion US Dollars. Future for Rediff looks pretty bright as it holds a key to Indian web market. Now with the rumors of possible acquisition, I expect the stock prices to go even higher!
