Digg for iPhone Goes Live!

iphone-digg2 It didn’t take long for Kevin and his team to design an iPhone friendly interface for Digg. The official iPhone friendly version of Digg can be found at digg.com/iphone. It’s pretty similar to the unofficial version, but this one has the ability to Digg stories and read top 5 comments associated with the story.

iPhone version is pretty light and fast compared to the normal digg website. It’s sleek iPhone-like scrolling interface and fluid design lets you browse in both normal and landscape mode.

The only drawback is that the navigation is restricted to just the frontpage and topics. Of course, you can jump across pages, but it would have been better, if we could perform search and read all comments associated with the story. Top Stories (24 hours/7 days) yet to come!

I couldn’t try it on an iPhone, but tried it on my N95 instead. It appears better than the actual mobile version of Digg, but since it uses AJAX for the login box and scrolling interface, you won’t be able to login or Digg the story. Usable, if you just want to read (without Digging).

Shashank: I don’t think it’ll arrive here in India any time sooner than Q1 2008. As usual, Apple is not so enthusiastic about Indian Market. iTunes Music Store is still not available in India. Weird!

DotMobi won’t be happy that digg are not using a .mobi address for the site.

Paul: Yeah, Digg.mobi would have been easier to remember, but I think some squatter might already own the domain name.
