Of late, the web seems to be revolving around social networks. Which are why, both big players Google and Yahoo are working on their own next generation social networks. While Yahoo’s Mosh is likely to replace Yahoo 360, Google is thinking of reinventing Orkut under a new name of SocialStream.
Yahoo didn’t leak or openly comment upon anything related to Mosh, but TechCrunch reports that anyone from Yahoo’s office or using Yahoo’s guest WiFi can access Mosh. No screenshot or additional details are available at the moment.
SocialStream is a Google-sponsored project at Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute which aims to better Orkut. The goal is not only to improve Orkut’s interface, but to reinvent social networking with a system to seamlessly share, view and respond to variety of social content. Check out the initially prototype of SocialStream.
In the past, we’ve seen Yahoo desperately wanting to acquire Facebook (but the deal didn’t get through). Rumors were also flying that Yahoo is in talks with Bebo. Do we really need more Social Networks? Don’t we have enough of them already?
