retune Do you hate depending on iTunes? Then you must certainly check out retune. It?s a tiny patch which lets you manage your music files by copying music directly to your iPod with Explorer, Finder, Konqueror, Nautilus or any other file manager.

reTune is not a iTunes alternative, but just a little program which must be run after plugging and before unplugging your iPod. You can copy or manage your music files, just like how you copy your music on a external hard disk or USB flash drive.

With reTune you can: Drag and drop music files into your iPod volume, rename your music files and organize it into folders, just like a USB flash drive or external hard drive. Your iPod, your rules!

How it works?

Martin Fiedler developed reTune to scan the iPod for playable media files and retrieve metadata (ID3 tag) to make them identifiable by the iPod. The retrieved ID3 tag and file names are then added to the iTunes database in your iPod.

How to use it?

The author is not liable for any loss of data or damages, so have a backup of your iPod library before attempting to play with reTune. Now, uninstall iTunes or make it undetectable when plugging in your iPod. Copy the patch in the root of the iPod volume. Create folders in your iPod, so that you can drag or drop files and organize it. After organizing run the executable file rebuild_db.exe. That?s it, just close your iPod volume and plug it out.

reTune has been tested on iPod Nano, but it?s said to be working on other iPod models as well.
