State owned BSNL has decided to launch its wireless data services using CDMA 2000 IX technology. Reliance and Tata Telecommunications already offer CDMA based wireless data service, but the tariff is very pricy and bandwidth caps make this service unaffordable for most users. BSNL aims to revolutionize wireless internet for laptop as well as home users by offering cheap internet service. Presently, the wireless data service is available in locations where BSNL’s CDMA IX MSC network is available. The tariff has already been put up on BSNL’s website.

NIC (Network Interface Card) offers speeds upto 144 Kbps, whereas EVDO (Evolution-Data Optimized) can deliver speeds upto 2 Mbps. I’m not so excited with this announcement from BSNL, as they have hardly covered India with their CDMA network. Poor customer support and frequent outage seems to be haunting DataOne customers all over India.

This is good. I wont need to worry much when I go back to India.
Hopefully when I get back, they would have improved their serivce, or the at least the competitors would have.

That is really a good news, private companies are charging too much and their services are also not very good.

yeah but remember BSNL is always powered with poor customer service

First ask them [BSNL] to offer the current services in all areas with good quality then it will be nice if they introduce new features. Without having a good network how they could be successful in offering services like these ?

how much is 250 rupee compare to Indonesian Rupiah? I check it with online currency conversion, I get :
1 Rupee = 244,49 Rupiah
We have a unlimited plan here too, But, It’s EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE! One month = 830.000 Rupiah.
830.000 / 244,49 = 3394.82 Rupee a month!
Oh gosh, You guys are really lucky not living in Indonesia!

Ahh.. I can’t use net when I attend a phone call.. but they say it’s possible. Many more issues. As Sankar said, customer support is really worse

Shankar Ganesh: Well, it’s actually possible. I’ve been using both phone and internet together. That’s we call it ADSL right. Better check back with your Telephone department.

Nirmal: I guess Ken Xu is talking about 2Mbps Unlimited. Even here in India it costs you around 3800 rupees, which makes it cheaper in Indonesia.
