Safari for Windows has been an instant hit with 1 million copies downloaded within just 48 hours after being released for public beta. The number seems to be quite impressive for a browser that has been heavily criticized for bugs and other security flaws.

So far, nine security vulnerabilities have been discovered and Apple has already issued an update to fix some of these flaws. CNET speculates that it could be security experts or hackers who are searching for security weaknesses.

It might also be Mac users, who love Safari so much that they want to try it on their other PCs at work or at home. In any case, this will certainly kick up Safari’s market share. Current, Safari occupies 5 percent of browser market share, trailing behind Internet Explorer and Firefox.

If you haven’t downloaded Safari, or want to get an updated version, you can get it from here.

  1. 1 Million downloads in a short period is amazing. Can only hope Safari turns out stable atleast when it comes out of beta.

  2. Safari is cool with the looks. But the problem is that it has few bugs.Hope that it comes out of beta without them.

  3. Safari 3 has really cool looks. The problem with it is that it has few bugs. Hope it comes out of beta without them.

  4. it will only be a addition to the already crowded browser market ..and yes the mac lovers will definitely load it into places…so it will get some share …

  5. To be honest with you, Thilak, I think Safari doesn’t deserve the attention its getting. I downloaded it yesterday and been using it for one day.

From what I know, its slow, dead slow. Nothing compared to Firefox. Even inferior to IE. And, it doesn’t have as many features too. And whenever I click that ant-like or spider-like icon (whatever you call it), it crashes.

I loved the RSS option but I have a Feed Reader to take care of that. I hate the way Apple was over-blurred the fonts. But, I have to admit, the design is splendid and streamlined.

But, I’m sure I wouldn’t go for design against utility. So, I’m back on my good old Firefox surfing even happier. Go Firefoxy !!

  6. Hmmm. Yeah. It seems like there is increase in the minority numbers. I mean, before, if there was a release, it was either a hit and everyone downloaded or only a handful did and that did not talk much about ROI.

Now, as far as the specific browser is concerned - I am not sure I will download it and use it. I am a stubborn buffalo who sometimes just does not move. :P
