Last week, YouTube introduced a new interface for their embedded video player. Many users found this new interface quite annoying because accidentally hovering over the video will bring up the related video thumbnails which stay there for a few seconds before disappearing.
YouTube’s official announcement got smeared by more negative comments than good ones, which made YouTube to slightly change their new interface, so that the only way to see related videos is to click on the “menu” while watching the video.
They are also giving you an option to go back to the old interface by adding rel=0 parameter to the video. So, if you are embedding a video on your blog, but you are not happy with the new interface (or don’t want visitors to see other videos), then you may conveniently change the interface by adding rel=0 to the end of the embed code.
Garett Rogers from Googling Google speculates that the new interface could be a major cash cow for YouTube. If this interface becomes popular, Google could easily make money by embedding sponsored videos between related videos. Moreover, these video ads could perhaps be specifically targeted based on the tags for the videos.

Well, in my opinion: I found the new player lovely. I need not wait for a new page to load to play the video. As far as they don’t insert ads in those thumbnails, I happy with the new player.

Well, they had to start bringing in revenue at some point. Maybe it’s time to start making some video ads?
The accidental trigger of video previews is quickly learned and adjusted for nag. No biggy.

I concur. The new player looks absolutely OK. And the ads, well… somehow Google will need to substantiate the 1.6 Billion dollars they paid isn’t it??

I think the new player is equally fine but I really miss that “Start Over” button or err… what ever you call it. When you press it, you start the video once again from the start.

Oh, and I think Google does deserve to put some ads on there. No objections here.
