How to use StumbleUpon in Opera

StumbleUpon is great for discovering websites, videos and photos, but they are not compatible with any other browser besides Firefox and Internet Explorer. Luckily for Opera users, there is a way to avail their offerings. Here’s how:

  1. Download StumbleUpon for Opera (mirror) and save it in the menu folder under profile. The path changes in accordance with the version of windows installed. Therefore, you may have to adjust the path; it may be e.g., “%appdata%\Opera\Opera\profile\menu” into a multiuser installation, or “%programfiles%\Opera\profile\menu” into a single user installation.
  2. In your browser, go to Tools, Preferences… (ctrl+F12)
  3. Select the Advanced tab, and then, Toolbars.
  4. Select StumbleUpon for Opera and click OK.
  5. You are done! A “StumbleUpon” menu will appear near Tools.

I’m not regular Opera user, so I’m not sure how painful it would be to install this toolbar, but it would have been pretty cool, if StumbleUpon could come up with an official toolbar which supports Opera and Safari.

Side note: Have you tried Toolbarless StumbleUpon bookmarklets?

The instructions in this post were originally created by Melo Bichuetti and me. The menu was created by Melo Bichuetti.

Then the instructions were plagiarised by Spot Geek without any attribution. Which should be done according to the licence on Melo Bichuetti’s blog:

    http://my.opera.com/vaz/blog/blair

Because Spot Geek didn’t say who’s the creator, it now appears like he’s the creator, which is totally wrong.

But since this happened we’ve launched a new website for the menu, formed a team and we’re going to release more content and improvements to the menu soon. In the meantime, people have been going to unofficial webpages, going through lots of trouble to install an old version of the menu.

But installing the latest version of the menu is as easy as installing a Firefox extension if you go to the official website which can be found at the following address:

    http://my.opera.com/suopera/blog/

And if people don’t link to the website when writing about the menu, their readers are going to miss out on a lot of upcoming content, updates and information. And you wouldn’t want that to happen, would you?
