Although Microsoft’s Service Pack roadmap page shows Windows XP SP3 to be released somewhere around the first half of 2008, it seems like they’ll released it by the end of this year. This news was hinted in a recent press release regarding their partnership with Juniper Networks. Here’s an excerpt of that press release:
Microsoft is announcing that Windows Vista supports this protocol today and Windows Server® 2008 and Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) will support it as well later this year. The Juniper Networks UAC solution is expected to support the new TNC standard in the first half of 2008.
Certainly a positive news for those running Windows XP, however, I don’t think it’ll be as exciting as SP2 mainly because Microsoft is now focused towards Windows Vista and they want us to switch over to the new operating system. All the bug fixes and patches would be integrated; hopefully even Windows Media Player 11 and newer version of other applications from Microsoft will also be integrated. Don’t expect the shiny Vista Interface to be added to Windows XP in SP3

Most people would obviously not agree with me but I would say, thank God for that! The day I find some pressing need to have transparent soap bubbles floating around my desktop, I’ll be sure to switch to Vista.

We’ve heard this before. This will only break every application in the world, forcing people to upgrade to Vista.

The release of XP SP3 is important, as although Microsoft is, as indicated, focused on Vista, the big majority of its uses are running XP, and facing continous security threats.

My work is still stuck on Windows XP, so it is nice to see they are still working to improve it.

Hah! There was a pirated WinXP SP3, and now this…..Not sure how many people know about non-Aero interface and lack of DX10.
If those 2 features were there, very few would buy Vista…..MS’s marketing genius!
