Orkut Scrapbook Entries via RSS Feed

Vikas Patial, A 23 year old analyst from India has coded a PHP script which translates your Orkut Scrapbook entries into RSS feeds. This script is not yet available for public consumption, but he gives you an opportunity to try out his script. Here’s what you have to do inorder to read your scraps in feed reader: Use the URL given below, but replace {uid} with your Orkut user ID

http://www.indian-tv.com/orkut.php?uid={uid}

Your Orkut User ID can be obtained by logging into Orkut and clicking on the profile button on the left. This screenshot should help you extract the user id from the URL:

In my opinion, Google should be a bit more serious toward Orkut. They send out email notifications whenever new scrap arrive, but the email doesn’t contain anything more than just a link back to your scrapbook and the sender’s profile link. Perhaps, adding RSS feeds to communities and scrapbooks should ease the pain of logging into Orkut every time to check new scrap or community topics. Do you think Google intentionally does this to inflate pageviews?

  • Also Orkut is facing alot of spam. Google should do something about it.
  • Interesting find.

    My theory about Google's seeming indifference to Orkut is that they either have no epic plans for it at the moment, or their plans are just not solid enough to make public.

    OR ... they are just tearing their hair out trying to make sense of the ASP backend they are stuck with and wishing there was some magical way to convert all functionality and data to PHP and the like.
  • This is really nice.
  • orkut scrapbook entries via RSS sounds to be a great idea..
    great find Thilak ..
  • This something amazing. But will anyone can take time to subscribe and read this scraps in any RSS Reader than just opening Orkut and checking his scraps?

    It can be good for Firefox users because they can use the Firefox Live Bookmark and get updates to there scraps there only!

    Thanks for sharing! :)
