Meebo Gets Chatrooms

The web based multi protocol messenger, Meebo has unveiled a new feature called Meebo Rooms. Basically, it’s a chat room and you can create or join any room. You can add chat rooms to your Meebo buddy list, inorder to get notified whenever someone drops messages in the chat room, but this feature can get annoying, if the room is highly active. Every room will feature a media player which will play YouTube and Metacafe videos whenever someone posts a link to those videos, the same functionality works for Flickr photos as well.

It is also possible to embed chat rooms to you site (just like MeeboMe). You are allowed to choose between different widget sizes (with or without media players) or you also have the option to choose your own size as well.

A room can hold upto 80 members. In an interview with TechCrunch, Meebo CEO, Seth Sternberg said that they are working on extending the number, without affecting the stability of the room. As a solution to this problem, they will create clone rooms whenever a room reaches the 80 members limit.

In other Meebo News, they’ve started advertising between videos. Any video posted in Meebo Rooms will include 15 – 30 seconds ads in between.
