DataFox Bandwidth Monitoring Addon for Firefox

Majority of BSNL and MTNL Broadband users who opt for limited data transfer plans usually end up exceeding their bandwidth caps and paying heavy bills. Brain Fernandes has developed an awesome Firefox addon which helps you control your bandwidth bills by monitoring your bandwidth usage within Firefox.

I would rate this addon as a must-have for any BSNL or MTNL broadband user running on limited bandwidth plans. Just incase, you don’t use Firefox, you can try out other bandwidth monitoring tools like:

Reliance Internet users in India can try Net Usage Item Addon, which was primarily designed for Australian ISPs. It works by reading the XML feed from the usage page, so you can’t use it with BSNL or MTNL connection.

In other broadband news, Indian Government seems to be in talks for providing free broadband throughout the country by 2009.

I use the older version of NetMeter which is now being developed again! Ihaven't tested the new version but it takes up virtually no memory and runs in the background painlessly. You have the option of setting max bandwidth allowed and it will warn you if it's getting close or that the trend in traffic could take you close to your limit. :) http://www.metal-machine.de/readerror/

  • I too had limited plans earlier, switched now. This is really a must have for BSNL limited plan users. Thanks for the info!
