Recently Digg released their API, so that developers can create wonderful apps out of Digg’s existing service. The first app to use Digg’s API is Smart Digg Button for Firefox. We come across many Digg buttons and toolbars in the past, but Smart Digg is a little different. It sits in the lower right corner of your browser and shows the Digg count. You can click on the notification and add your own Digg to the story or if the page hasn’t be submitted, clicking on the button will take you to submission page.
The addon works pretty smoothly and the Digg count represents the popularity of the page. Inorder to fetch the counts from Digg, this addon sends the URL of every page you visit. This addon is not built by Digg, but it gives Digg a capacity to collect your browsing history.
This plugin is for those who are really addicted to Digg or for those who aren’t concerned about privacy. In my opinion, the author of this addon needs to put more functionality into the plugin. Maybe an option to temporarily disable the addon or see the comments which Diggers left on the page.
