Schools Ban iPods to Prevent Cheating
Schools have a long history of banning things to prevent its students from cheating. The newest entrant to the list is iPod. Devices like iPod or Zune which can be easily sneaked under pockets, can also hold formulae and other material. A high school in Idaho is one of the first schools to impose the ban on MP3 players after teachers overheard kids talking about downloading formulae and other materials on their iPod.
Aaron Maybon, principal of Mountain View High School said: “It doesn’t take long to get out of the loop with teenagers. They come up with new and creative ways to cheat pretty fast.”
Some students use iPod compatible voice recorders to record test answers beforehand and then play it back, while others download crib notes and save them as lyrics. Kids are smart as well as creative; they’ll come up with something else to cheat. Three years ago, Duke University of North Carolina provided iPods to its students to enhance learning. Ironic isn’t it?
