Back in August last year, Microsoft had expressed their intentions to launch an online storage service, which everybody called as Live Drive. Recently, Microsoft accidentally added a new service called Windows Live Folders on their Feedback site.
The product can no longer be seen on their feedback site, as they’ve pulled it down, however, the cached version of the page still lists the service. No specific details regarding the storage space or the price is available at the moment, but I guess they’ll have both paid and free version of the service. The storage space would be somewhere in between 3 – 8 GB (free) because Windows Live Hotmail is already offering 2GB inboxes. Microsoft had built a 470,000-square-foot server farm at Quincy last month. The datacenter could be used to fire Windows Live Folders.
Official announcement regarding Windows Folders and the long awaited @live.com email address is expected to come from Microsoft next week as their 3 day MIX event is going on at Las Vegas. Microsoft has a long history of leaking unofficial details regarding their upcoming products, they did it for @live.com email address, and they did it again for Windows Live Folders. I’m starting to feel that this is just a marketing approach from Microsoft.
