Google Search History Expands to Web History

Google has renamed Google Search History to Google Web History. Once you’ve enabled the feature, Google will not only record your search history, but will also record your browsing history. It makes revisiting the sites you’ve browsed a lot simpler by searching the full-text of those pages. For instance, if you want to re-visit your friends, but you don’t remember the address of his page, simply go to Google Web History and search your friend’s name, it’ll list down all your previously visited pages which had his name.

Based on your previous browsing history, Google can suggest interesting web pages and show your browsing trends. This feature is already raising endless question regarding privacy. As an end user would you like to store your browsing history with Google?

I’m not so comfortable with sending my browsing history to their servers. Google is into online advertising business and Google could use my data for their own good. OK, let’s assume Google won’t do such nasty things, but what if someone sneaks into your account? They’ll get your entire search history! Moreover, I see no point in using this service, as our browser already records web history. Additionally, with Google Desktop installed, you can search full-text of your browser’s web history.

  • I get an wierd feeling
  • Yeah Google also renamed Froogle...I wonder why they keep changing names. May be to promote their product but I liked the word Froogle much better
