Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn Released

The most popular Linux Distro, Ubuntu has reached version 7.04 codenamed ‘Feisty Fawn’. Soon after Canonical released Ubuntu 7.04 ‘Feisty Fawn’, their site went down as it couldn’t handle the enormous traffic generate by Ubuntu fans who came looking for the new version. They were forced to switch over to a low bandwidth version of their site which only had links to mirrors along with the release notes. (Update: Ryan has a mirror of that page)

I couldn’t try Feisty Fawn as I’m still downloading and the download speed isn’t as good as it should be, but from what I read in their release notes, Feisty Fawn has better compatibility and simplicity meant to target windows users. A new Windows Migration Tool helps users migrate to Ubuntu by recognizing Internet Explorer bookmarks, Firefox favorites, desktop wallpaper, AOL IM and Yahoo IM contacts, and imports them all into Ubuntu during installation. Installing multimedia codecs has always been an issue for newbie’s, to resolve this, Feisty Fawn ships with guided wizard for automatic codec installation. User interface has been changed with a new artwork, desktop background and splash screen. Chess and Sudoku have been included into games.

Feisty Fawn does not offer long term support of version 6.06. The support of Feisty Fawn last only upto 18 months, if you’re a support sucker, stick to 6.06, else upgrade to the latest version. The forthcoming version of Ubuntu is Gutsy Gibbon and is due in October 2007.

Feisty Fawn is available in Edubuntu 7.04, Kubuntu 7.04 and Xubuntu 7.04 flavors. You can download the 694MB ISO Image from their website. Alternatively, if your internet connection does not permit that, you can freely request CDs from Canonical, but please don’t miss use it!

Ubuntu receive free endorsement from Dell’s CEO and Chairman, Michael Dell after his company blog announced that Dell has got a new laptop which runs on Ubuntu.

  • Vikram: You should have linked to the download page. Ordering CDs for free is unethical when you can download it.
