Yahoo has announced partnership with Ebay, PayPal to offer an express checkout system similar to Google Checkouts. Yahoo calls it “PayPal Checkout”. How familiar? From now on, you can see lots of shopping cart icons across Yahoo’s Sponsored Results, similar to the ones you see across Google, but here it’s PayPal not Google Checkouts.

It’s a win-win deal for both PayPal and Yahoo, it not only helps PayPal earn profits, but also helps Yahoo to earn ad click by helping the ad stand out. Here’s a note from Yahoo’s Search Marketing Blog:

“Here is how it works: When a user goes to Yahoo Search to find an item or service, the results page may include Yahoo Sponsored Search results matched to the user’s query. If the merchant has joined the Yahoo PayPal Checkout program, a blue shopping cart icon will appear next to the merchant’s name in the Sponsored Search results. By clicking on the ad, users will have direct access to a safe, secure purchasing process that does not require any additional credit card information and can be completed in just a few mouse clicks.”

The fact that they’ve posted it twice here and here proves that they are so excited. How uncool? I use PayPal, but I’ve never tried checkout, I bet lots of other users do the same (because PayPal dominates Google Checkouts in terms of users) and that proves to be a difference between Yahoo – PayPal and Google Checkouts.
