For the first time in Google’s history, they’ve made a pre-announcement before the product is actually launched. Something which Microsoft is very fond of doing, but Google isn’t. The product in question is the largely speculated Google Presently. Google’s response to PowerPoint is finally coming into shape and Google blog confirms it. The technology comes from a newly acquire company called Tonic; they will help Google to bring Presently into life with their Java presentation automation products and solutions for document management.
Google Presently would be a new addition to the Google Docs and spreadsheet family. Presently would go as a free, web based alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint, but no way competes with Office (that’s what Eric Schmidt, Google CEO had to say in a interview with CNet)
Google Presently makes complete sense, as it completes Google Suite and somewhat competes with Microsoft Office to hurt their pockets, despite Google executives refusing the fact. Google Presently should be available at some point this summer. I’m very excited about Presently, I would like to see it in action.
