Anothr – IM based RSS Reader for Skype/GTalk/MSN

There are countless online and desktop RSS readers available. Google Reader, FeedDemon and Bloglines are the few good ones to mention. I came across a relatively new instant messenger based RSS reader called Anothr which sends you an instant message whenever the feed you’ve subscribed updates.

No registration or installation required, it works out of the box for Skype, Google Talk and MSN. Basically, it’s a simple instant messenger bot and you’ll have to add it as your buddy to get it working. You can add new subscription and tags from Anothr’s web based management dashboard using the links provided by the bot.

Skype bot: anothr.com

GTalk/Jabber bot: anothr@gmail.com

MSN bot: msn@anothr.com

RSS Publishers and bloggers can add Anothr badge on their site to allow people of quickly add your feed to their messenger. Additionally, you can also add a MyBlogLog style “Recent Subscribers” widget to promote Anothr through your sidebar.

Fantastic concept, but I won’t recommend anyone to use Anothr as a mainstream RSS reader, especially if you read large quantities of feeds, however, it does come handy in getting instantaneous updates of few essential ones.
