Yahoo unveiled their new customizable search engine named Yahoo! Alpha (beta). Many call it as a competitor to Google Coop; actually, it’s more like Rollyo – “roll your own search engine”. Alpha comes with modules which can pull search results from Flickr, YouTube, Wikipedia, Yahoo!7 Answers and Yahoo!7 News. You can build custom modules of any site which returns search results in the form of RSS Feed. It also has a module called Yahoo! Search Marketing for Sponsored Results, it sends a strong feeling that Yahoo is into making money or sharing profits with users.

Yahoo! Alpha reminds me of Netvibes, where you can see results from other search engines by just typing a query into one box. Ashley makes a strong point that Yahoo Alpha’s interface slightly resembles with Google’s test site Search Mash. Yahoo Alpha Beta… doesn’t that sound a bit odd?

  1. I saw that too.Pretty cool thing.Google Search Code is good for bloggers who have content in subdirectory also and they can use adsense to make some good money too.

If yahoo can provide this feature too…it Will be cool.

  2. Well that’s nice, but Yahoo gotta take a lesson or two from Google. The reason why their search engine continues to be so popular is the fact that it is plain and simple. It does not distract the users from the primary purpose of going to the site - to search.

  3. They are allowing you to use even Google search results (via RSS), that is a nice thing.
