Google Pranks 2007: Google TiSP and Gmail Print

Google has a long history of April Fool Pranks, they spend a lot of time and never miss it year-after-year. Last year’s prank was Google Romance which aimed at resolving search problems while dating with the contextual SoulMate search technology. This year, Google has come up with two new prank products.

Google TiSP: TiSP stands for Toilet Internet Service Provider. It is a free in-home wireless broadband system which will be delivered to your toilet using your plumbing system. As usually, TiSP is free and ad supported. Users need a WiFi capable computer and a toilet connected to the municipal sewage system. To learn more about TiSP and Install TiSP in your toilet, please refer this page. Read press release here.

Gmail Paper: I warn you, this is extremely funny, if you don’t want to fall off the chair and start laughing, please stop reading, else… you can proceed under your own risk. Gmail Paper is a new addition to the long list of features offer by Gmail. With this new feature, you can get a hard copy (printed) copy of your emails via traditional snail mail. The printing and postage costs are covered by relevant unobtrusive advertisements which will appear behind every Gmail Print.

Just in case your mails have photos as an attachment, Google will print them for you on high quality glossy paper. Similarly for audio attachments like WAV and MP3, they suggest you to create their mirror copies on non-paper media. There are absolutely no limits for the quantity of mails that can be printed. All emails are printed on papers made out of 96% post-consumer organic soybean sputum, and thus, actually helps the environment. Head over to this page to read more. Don’t miss the testimonials

Google sometimes chooses April Fools Day to actually launch new products. Few call it as their marketing strategy. Gmail, Google Moon and Google Rider Finder were announced on this day. Everyone assumed it to be prank, but they turned out to be real products.

If it was a prank, i don’t think they would put about Gmail Paper in the Gmail Homepage, Though i did not find the button inside Gmail, might be its being launched slowly .

Phalgun: We know that! If you take a look at the post title, it reads “Google Prank 2007″. I moderate all comments, so there no need to submit them multiple times.

DV: Its too hard to be true. I still feel its a prank

I was ROTFL when i saw TiSP. GMail Paper sounded cool and i thought its a real service but when i read fully that they will offer photo & MP3 support,i knew they were playing pranks.

Infact GMail paper might be needed and i guess its a cool business model for GMail to get ads printed on paper & hard copy of mail by mail service provider may be usefull in some court proceedings,, Wish they launch it soon..

I agree that it would be pretty cool for Gmail Paper to become a reality. Although, I almost must realize that users of the service can make their own Paper copies. It’s called a printer.

As for TiSP, it’d be awesome if it were real. Until I read what the acronym actually stood for, I thought it was real.

At first I thought this might explain Google’s recent purchases of the ‘dark fiber’. Afterall, they would need the fiber to support the bandwidth for the free wireless internet connection they are offering. Unfortunately this is just an april fool joke but Google becoming ISP is not that far off.

It sounded funny lol…I had been thinking why the hell they want to do for free and what a useless idea

  • Sparkina

I thought the TiSP and the Gmail Paper were a hoot — but last year’s — not so much.
I thought Google Romance was a genuine service, and, being an unpartnered woman who would like to find her Heart’s True Hero, my heart was beating faster than a speeding bullet. When I went to register and was informed that it was only a prank, I was so disappointed I almost cried and felt like throwing things at my screen. Was I the only one who was disappointed that Google romance was only a prank? I didn’t find it funny. I thought it was cruel, mean, and sadistic, and the Google honchos were having a laugh at the expense of tens of thousands of unpartnered souls who would really rather be partnered. Anyone else think it was a mean trick on Google’s part?
