Microsoft’s Virtual Earth Moves Closer

Microsoft Virtual Earth team has added nearly 3.8 Terabytes worth of new satellite imagery, which can show you some high resolution bird’s eye view of cities across US and Europe.

The bird’s eye view looks awfully close and gives you a feeling as if you are flying on a chopper. However, I must complain that Virtual Earth takes endlessly long to render the map (in comparison with Google Earth). Check out the list of cities.

They’ve compiled a tour of Chicago, which takes you through architectural points of interests in Chicago. Give it a try. With this new imagery, Virtual Earth is trying to bite Google Earth

The image quality looks great. Probably why it takes a long time to render. Nice find. I’m going to check this out.

Microsoft tries to compete with Google in all fields. Quite interesting and beneficial for the consumers.

Sorry, but I can’t take this seriously, I had (an admittedly) quick look and it seems ok. But it’s yet another “me too” product from microsoft.
It’s often said that microsoft has some of smartest software engineers in the business, I see very little evidence of this, why is it that MS never seems to innovate?

I guess it’s good that Google has a some competition
