Beware: Trojan Spreading Through Skype

A security alert by Websense uncovered a new malicious Trojan which goes by the name of Warezov and Stration. This Trojan is known to operate by sending “Check up this” followed URL to your Skype Contacts. Whenever a user clicks on that link, he’ll be redirected to download a file named file_01.exe.

Once the downloaded file runs on your computer, it downloads several other malicious codes and tries to connect to Yahoo SMTP mail server, inorder to notify the attacker about the infected machine. However, this doesn’t work. The Trojan can then be used to steal your vital information, send spam or even launch a DDOS (Denial of Service) attacks.

The Trojan by itself isn’t self propagating nor is it vulnerability within Skype. Please keep in mind, not to download any files which maybe suspicious.
