Yahoo Widgets 4 Now Available

Yahoo Widgets 4 is now available for download. This new version boasts a cool new feature called Widget Dock which neatly fits in the edge of you screen and helps you manage your widgets. The dock can also show cute looking vitals or better known as just mini-widgets.

Other new features include Widget Discover and Auto Updating Widgets. Adding new Widgets is simpler than ever, Yahoo Widgets 4 ships with Gallery Widget which lets you browse/add new widgets without opening your browser. In the mean time, if your favorite Widgets are updated, you don’t need to manually update it anymore. Whenever an update is available, you’ll get an indicator in the dock, clicking on it automatically updates you widgets. Currently the auto update feature works for Widgets built by Yahoo; soon they’ll be expanding it to third party widgets as well. For die-hard Flickr fans like me, they’ve built a power Flickr widget, which not only streams photos to your desktop, but also painlessly uploads your photo.

They’ve put lots of work into making Yahoo Widgets 4 much more usable for both developers and end-users. For the first time, I felt like keeping Yahoo Widgets (Usually, I uninstall after trying it). I’ll spend an hour or two to search some killer productive widgets for my daily needs. Good job Yahoo!

Side note: Yahoo has decided to strip the word ‘Engine’ for the name ‘Yahoo Widgets Engine’. From now on, it’s simply Yahoo Widgets.

  • I stopped using widgets for the lack of this docking facility. Now, i may re-think. Another problem with this is, it eats a lot of memory and has a conflict with FF.
