Steekr: Online Storage for Backups

Hard Drive crash is nothing uncommon today. Just a drop is good enough to destroy all the data from your laptop, so online backups are better alternatives to conventional hard drive backups. Although storing confidential data online isn’t always a good idea, they work well for essential items. There are plenty of online backup providers today, who offer cheap or free storage space for your files. Steekr is one such online backup service who recently came out as beta. The initial Steekr beta offerings provide Windows/Mac software for automatic backups with 1GB of free storage space. Once stored online, the files can be shared or audio/video files can be played directly from browser window. Steekr’s upcoming features include mobile data access as well.

To make the backup process simpler, Steekr gives you Windows/Mac client which can automate the entire backup process, else you’ll have to use the web based interface to upload your files. Steekr will face some tough competition in the crowded market of free online backup providers. Competitors like XDrive already provide 5GB of free storage, where Steekr just gives 1GB. Anyway, you can opt for paid Steekr subscription which starts from 11$ for 5GB and 37$ for 100GB.

Do you store backups online? If yes, what do you use? Tell us through comments.
