As a video sharing site, YouTube totally relies on user generated videos. In an effort to recognize some of the best uploaded videos, they’ve decided to give awards for the best videos uploaded in 2006. The awards are categorized into Most Inspirational, Most Creative, Best Series, Best Comedy, Musician of the Year, Best Commentary and “Most Adorable Video Ever. The voting is open between Monday to Friday (19th March – 23rd March), to see the nominees or vote go here. Winners will be announced on March 25th and will be awarded with Trophies and a prominent spot on YouTube.

This event is most likely to turn into a yearly festival, or something like the Oscars. I think its great idea, this would probably promote better quality user-generated videos on YouTube.

  1. I hope they will provide live webcast , Indians can get awarded for dubbing movie’s in hindi and Punjabi .I have a link collection for Punjabi spiderman and others .

  2. Atul: I don’t think they’ll give you a webcast. It’s not a ceremony, it’s just a contest.

Anyway, I’m not god, so I might be wrong

  3. Interesting idea. It will definitely get a lot of views.

I recently heard about the Broadband Emmy award — and am wondering if these two will compete for some sort of legitimacy in the online award space.

The Emmy’s obviously have some cache, already.
