URL Fixer – The Typo Killer for Firefox

We all hate typos, but we still commit them unknowingly. Things get even worse when you hit the return key in Firefox address bar and then realize that you committed a typo. URL Fixer is a super handy Firefox extension which does the dirty job of fixing these typos for you. It can fix most common typos in both prefix (http:, https:) and suffix part (com, org, net, info.. etc) of a domain name.

These fixes are instantaneous (if you haven’t selected confirmation by right clicking the address bar), it won’t let you realize that you have committed a typo at all. Best of all, it works for country specific domain names such as co.xx, .xx, org.xx etc

If you ever count the number of typos you make on an average day, you’ll get a rough idea of time eaten by these typos. URL Fixer works efficiently and is a real timer saver.

Side note: The functionalities of URL Fixer have been nominated to be implemented in the upcoming Firefox 3.

    this is great. but i was also hoping that the typo killer would fix my firefox’s inexplixcable inability to go straight to a URL [say, "cnn"] when i type the website name without adding “www” or “.com”. unfortunately, it didn’t.
    any suggestions? i’d be grateful. thanks.

    While this is an extremely old comment, if someone else sees Jonathan’s issue about FF not filling in “www” and “.com” parts of the URI, there are at least two solutions:

    1) Reinstall FF, if it never figures it out. It’s supposed to, but only after a pretty long delay. See, it can’t just assume you mean “www.cnn.com” because you might have a computer called “cnn” and it has to try looking it up. Worse still, your Internet provider might have a computer called “cnn” and then you’ll be *really* confused. Really, it’s just a bad idea to rely on this.

    2) Type “cnn” but TELL Firefox what to do with it by using the shortcut keys provided, to fill in the info you’re leaving off.
    * Ctrl-Enter –> http://www.?.com
    * Alt-Shift-Enter –> http://www.?.net
    * Ctrl-Shift-Enter –> http://www.?.org

    Of course, one can never assume the site has a “www” in front…but it works most of the time.
