Picasa Web Albums Adds Storage, Features, Intergrates Blogger

Last week, Google introduced some new features into their online photo sharing site, Picasa Web Albums. The storage space has been escalated from 250MB to 1GB (for free accounts). For sharing, they’ve added links for individual albums and embed codes for photos.

Blogger users have even more reasons to enjoy; Whatever you upload to your blog is now a part of Picasa Web Albums. All photos uploaded to your BlogSpot blog since December will now appear in your Web Albums (they are working in adding old photos as well). Although, it’s pretty nice feature, I think some bloggers won’t like it because they might use Picasa Web Albums strictly to share personal photos. Take for instance, you uploaded a screenshot or logo to your BlogSpot blog, would you like show that screenshot in your Web Album? It would make Picasa Web Albums a storage bin for all your blog photos, rather than a photo sharing site.

It’s evident that Picasa Web Albums is trying to catch-up with Yahoo owned Flickr. Some have already dumped Flickr and moved onto Picasa, but I’m still in favor of Flickr (in terms of features and other social components), what about you?

  • How r u friend do visit my blogs, i seen your blogs interesting & inspiring keep it up. All best & merry christmas
  • I'm too still with Flickr for some good reason. The growing number feature in google tends me to use their service... like in gmail the space keeps growing..... now Picassa is 1 GB... one day picassa storage limit too will start counting like gmail :-)
  • ooo, I'm not really a fan of how photos will also be displayed in Picasa if you upload to your blog. Again, as you said, people wouldn't want to see a screenshot of some site when Picasa is strictly personal photos.
