Yahoo! – $20 Million for a photograph

$20 Million for a photograph, isn’t that a bit pricy?? Imaging getting publicity, fame and money altogether. Some random lady from Ohio sued Yahoo when she discovered her photograph being used in the confirmation email for Yahoo Mail, without permission.

She has hired three law firms to fight her case and they hope to sue Yahoo for $20 million. It’s pretty obvious $20 million is simply insane for a random model, so Yahoo might consider settling the case out of the court for something lower than that. Even then that lady is lucky, who would get paid for doing nothing?

How can such a multibillion dollar company be so ignorant? They could have bought royalty free photos for a buck rather than paying $20 million. The lady might have some worries with the legal battle, if Yahoo found the photograph from Flickr or Yahoo Photos.

With such a big organization goof-ups are still possible. But I really wonder how a situation has arisen where in people can sue at the drop of a hat.
