Abhishek shares a useful registry hack for Windows XP which lets you hide accounts from the Windows Logon Screen. Don’t forget to have a backup of your registry settings before attempting this hack:
- Go to Start > Run and type ‘regedit‘ (without quotes)
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry entry “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList”
- Right click on the right pane and add New > DWORD Value
- Rename the new entry with the Username (Ex: Thilak)
This will hide the user from the Windows Logon Screen. You can login as the hidden user using the Windows 2000 style logon box (Assuming that you have turned off Fast User Switching).

Thanks Ken, I didn’t knew that there was a software alternative. Can you join our forum and start some discussions there ?

Thanks so much. I now know that i should never try to crack a winxp tweek tool. They hid my username on the login screen. If something like this ever does happen, you can always press crtl+alt+del twice at the log in screen and it will take you to the 2000 style login.
