After reading about such incidents I feel that it is indeed very important to keep a backup of your blog.You never know what may happen the next morning,it is a must to take precautions.

I totally agree with you that instead of depending on blogger or any other hosting service for that case,it is better to switch to one's own domain.But if there is a financial constraint then there are loads of other options available to make a free backup of your blog(like the one's posted above).

Karthik: No.. it won’t be the same because if your host throws you out, you’ll still have the domain name and database backup with you. You can go with any other host and set it up again, you won’t loose traffic this way.. because you’ll get the same permalink structure

But If you get banned on Blogger, you can’t get the same subdomain again.. you lose Pagerank, Traffic… virtually everything

Kartik: I partially agree with you, but what’s the point in backing up the blogger blog. I mean to say.. If they ban your blog, everything is gone!

Consider you have 1000+ posts and you have a backup as well. How are you going to restore the backup. Self hosted blogs are the best in that regard.

It takes only few pennies to get .info domain, once you get a domain. Find any decent free host and host your blog with him. Just incase he throws you out.. you can always move to a different host. At the most, you’ll have to keep your blog down for a day or two.. that’s it.. you’ll still have your months and months of hard work with you.
