In the near future YouTubers will get will their share of revenue for uploading their videos on YouTube. Founder, Chad Hurley confirmed that they are working on a revenue sharing system. He added that they won’t make it one big release, but revenue sharing mechanism would be deployed one by one over the next few months. No much details regarding the revenue sharing system was disclosed.
The revenue sharing advertisement will be “pre-roll†video ads in the form of static image or short video clip. Hurley said that their aiming at extremely short video ads of less than 3 seconds, so that it doesn’t annoy their viewers. Google has already introduced video ads for AdWords clients, so YouTube should give them more real estate for these video ads.
Competitors with similar revenue sharing model include Revver and Adbrite’s InVideo (indirectly). Hurley also claimed that his company is working on “audio fingerprinting” technologies to weed out copyright infringed material from YouTube.
I believe that revenue sharing model for YouTube would future promote copyright infringed videos, but at the same time it would drastically bring great success to YouTube. Looks like 2007 holds great excitement for YouTube and team.
