Blogspot on Your Own Domain

Good news Blogger fans, the new version of Blogger now gives you the freedom to have your own domain name, in lieu of the traditional .blogspot.com subdomain. Getting your own domain name doesn’t mean that you’ll lose all your loyal visitors and search engine ranking, your blogspot.com address will be redirected to your new domain. Google will continue to host your blog post and pictures, so you don’t have to worry about web hosting at all.

You can still opt-in for FTP publishing, but you’ll miss out some great features and end up paying a hosting bills. Now, I can sense some competition between WordPress and Blogger.

I think it was from a long time back because I used to have it for my class’s website blog!

But its an awesome tool – now I think Amit sir can lift up his blog to a domain :P !

any red blooded blogger if he/she has the cojones to buy a domain, would use wordpress and I never liked blogger due to sheer lack of functionality

Rishi: Your talking about FTP publishing, this is something new. Any blogspot blog can be moved to its own domain name without any trouble like installing or moving SQL DBs

Anirudh: I agree with you, That’s exactly why I was tempted to try WordPress two years earlier.

I’ve always thought of WordPress being the better more feature rich blog tool. Which it is, however on WordPress.com it lacks the functionality that I would need to switch from my own self-hosted WordPress installation.

The new features on Blogger; specifically the new template editor will coerce many bloggers who don’t know how to manage their own host to use Blogger. This new feature enabling bloggers to ditch the *.blogspot.com address is only a good sign for users as it means their is big competition between the big blogging providers. Namely, wordpress.com and blogger.

Yeah Lawsy, WordPress need to allow users to use their own CSS and stuff like that, they can’t keep going behind money for everything.

    Thilak,

Do you use the wordpress editor or do you use a third party editor like w.blogger or something like that?

  • http://tech-buzz.net Thilak

Paul Jacob: While on my Macbook, I use Ecto. While on my Desktop PC, I use Windows Live Writer. What about you ?

    Thanks Thilak for the reference!

WordPress.com has also introduced this system a month back!

naw, ftp hosting has been around for ages. even before the beta. i have used it in 2004 to host my blogspot site on a geocities account :-)

This feature has been around for some time, Google have just rephrased it because the previous Blogger help page didn’t read as clearly.

I recently ran a post on the 9 main things wrong with Blogger, which are slowly but inexorably forcing me to move towards a hosted platform, which will in all likelihood be WordPress…

I’m thinking of using w.blogger due to its ease of use.The default wordpress editor to put it simply slows down productivity.

  • http://tech-buzz.net Thilak

Paul Jacob: Have you tried Windows Live Writer ?

i am long time waiting for this. thank for our intro…
