Avatars play a major role in social networks such as Orkut, MyBlogLog, MySpace, Facebook and few others. It helps people quickly identify you, without an avatar your profile might look boring or you might go unnoticed.
While adding a real photo as an avatar should be sufficient for most of us, few people think that adding a real photo would give scope to dastardly acts such as defacing or pimping. Ofcource, you can make use of Photoshop or GIMP to create unique avatars for yourself, but not all of us are geeky enough to create it.
I stumbled across a site called ImageChef which help you build a custom avatar within few clicks. They have a large repository of animated as well as static images. Just go to their site, pick a cool image of your choice and add some text to it and click ‘preview’, if your happy with it, you can continue and download the image. For instant messenger avatars, they have a separate section.
While Animated Avatars look really cool, some social networks do not accept such images. I’ve come across many such image generators, but non of them contain these many templates.
