Spike The Vote Now Owned by Digg, 700 Accounts Banned

Do you remember Spike The Vote ?, a network which aimed at gaming Digg, Del.icio.us and Netscape by getting 1000 diggers together to cross digg each others posts and promote your stories. The site gained quick popularity by featuring on TechCrunch and CNet.

For some strange reason, the owner of the site decide to sell it on eBay. Jim Messenger of FamousAgents.com bought it for $1,275.00 and turned it over to Digg.

Digg quickly banned the accounts of all members of the community and redirected Spike The Vote to Digg.com. Smart move by Jim, but unfortunately Digg didn’t reimburse $1,275 which he paid for the site.

I knew right from the start that something like this would happen, so I never attempted to try it. Thesedays Digg is on a banning spree which is bad for them. Now the question is Why he sell the site, if it was so damn popular ?

It must have gotten more expensive to maintain. I don’t think Spike was making money.

Ajay: I think he had some revenue model in his mind, like you could buy credits/points for money…

But selling the site with database, i think it is violation of privacy.

Ashok: Obviously, I still figure out why he sold his site. Or was owned by digg right from the start itself ?
