    More concise? Be a jerk to be banned by Google.

    Good one Thilak. I think all blogger ‘wanna-be’s should definitely go through that article you linked to.

    Duplicate content is also one of the reasons to stick to either a www or a non-WWW version of your site.

    I prefer the non-WWW

    Ajay: I prefer the same, I use Matt’s No-WWW plugin

    @faud, http:// would require to used in either cases: URL with www or URL without it. It simply states the browser that the transfer of data would take place according to ‘Hyper Text Transfer Protocol’.

    One of the other protocol that is worth mentioning here is the FTP protocol. If we have an FTP access to a site, then we can easily connect to it from the browser with prefixing ‘ftp://’ to it. FTP stands for ‘File Transfer Protocol’.

    @Faud: I simple don’t like it, Check out No-WWW

    there’s a setting in google webmaster tools where you can choose whether to use the www or non-www URL. this is if you listed your site in google’s webmaster tools, and only works for google, not the other SEs

  • http://www.gottapimp.com cool stuff

    The www is considered a sub-domain on your main domain, thus, a duplicate site with duplicate content. You’d thing the engines would just choose one or the other and consider them the same.

    hey, thanks I didn’t know that having a no www
    would make a difference but I’ll be checking into that!

    i stick to using www. not sure why though. Just have done with all my websites.

    You use http:// so that you don’t have duplicate content.
    With wordpress you have two copies of your site, one found at http://www.blog.com and one at http://blog.com. Theory is that Google doesn’t like this.
