Apple on Tuesday confirmed and apologized for ship iPod infected with RavMonE.exe Trojan, which made its way to iPod manufacturing plant through ubiquitous devices. The company said that over 1% for iPod shipped from September 12, 2006 were infected with this Trojan

Once this Trojan enters your system, it contacts several remote sites and notify them about the infection and allows remote access to your computer. This is a mass storage virus, so it may also infect your other devices attached to your computer such as Digital Cameras, USB flash drives and other removable media. So it is recommended to run a virus scan on all your devices recently attached to your computer. The company added that iPod nano, iPod shuffle and Mac OS X are not affected, and all Video iPods now shipping are virus free.

So if your buying a new iPod in the near future, don’t forget to run a virus scanner on it. This controversy should make MS bit feel happy because it may give some boost to Zune’s sale. What do you think ?

  1. That is crazy. I have never heard of this before. I am happy I have an old iPod. By the way where it asks for Website URL in the comment area, it says “Website URI”. Just thought you might want to replace the I with a L. Thanks for commenting this month by the way. Currently you are my number 3 commentator.

  2. Bryan: Thanks for the heads up, I actually meant “Uniform Resource Identifier”, anyway I have modified it to URL now
