When I recently placed a 200x200 ad on the single article page of mine, it showed just an image. Their policy states that you are not allowed to alter, hide, or modify the code which would remove the "Ads by Goooogle" from the ad. So, if they are doing this... I am sure that they made an announcement about it. Did you check their blog site, or their announcements page?
