Including small images near AdSense ads can really boost click through rate, but is it really worth risking your AdSense account for some extra cash?
I tried to ask this question to AdSense support multiple times, but I didn’t get a proper reply to any of those. Instead they put me in a confusion by giving botish answers like this one.
Hello Thilak,
Thank you for taking time to contact us.
In general, you’re welcome to place images near the Google ads on your site. However, some implementations are not permitted by our program policies, so we ask that
you exercise some caution when choosing or placing the images. As in your example website you maintain a visible border between the ad
unit and the images, your are permitted to use this setup. For additional questions, I’d encourage you to visit the AdSense Help
Center (http://www.Google.com/adsense_help), our complete resource center
for all AdSense topics. Alternatively, feel free to post your question on
the forum just for AdSense publishers: the AdSense Help Group
(http://groups.google.com/group/adsense-help).Sincerely,
Pim

So I clarified my doubts by contacting some members of Webmaster forums and AdSense hot shots. According to them, you can place images near ads with a proper border dividing ads and images. Its even better if you give your images a 1px or larger border. But don’t ever place images which point towards ads or draw unnecessary attension towards ads.
Just to earn some extra bucks a day, don’t risk your adsense account
