Sony Plans to launch Blue Ray this October

Looks like we don’t have to wait any longer for Blue Ray discs to arrive because Sony is planning to launch Blue Ray disks early this October which will also coincide with Blue Ray hardware.

Sony says that the pricing of these discs would be similar to those of standard DVD and initially it would be available in Australia Japan, Korea, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Spain and UK.

Blue Ray was jointly developed by a group of consumer electronics and PC companies called Blue Ray Disc Association spearheaded by Sony, currently Blue Ray is facing stiff resistance from Toshiba’s HD DVD for next gen optical standards. Both of the formats have already hit US stores. As of now its too hard to say which will survive. My sixth sense says its Blue Ray (maybe its just due to its name).

@Sindhu: DVD Burners can burn CDs, Similarly Blu Ray Burner can burner DVDs. DVDs are’nt old yet.

Blu Ray Burner costs around 11 K Rs in India. I just bought a DVD burner recently so I will just wait until the fight ends b/w Blu Ray and HD DVD

I plan to purchase a 40″ Sony LCD (KDL40W300) television, and would like to know if this model will take advantage of the Blue Ray technology?
