No HD DVD or Blu-ray in 32 bit Vista

Over at TechED 2006 at Sydney, Microsoft has announced that 32 bit edition of Vista would never support high definition Video formats like HD DVD and Blu-ray. All the new formats would require 64-bit systems with 64 bit edition of Vista.

Which means Intel’s Core Duo, Core Solo for laptops wouldn’t be able to support these formats. Microsoft would be assuming that by the time HD DVD or Blu-ray would spread out, so would 64 bit systems.

Although AMD and Intel’s 64 bit CPUs have hit the stores, 64 bit drivers are still lagging far behind. And I surely think this isn’t a good move by Microsoft. What do you think?
