If your a blogger then you shouldn’t forget to ping after you update your blog because there are lots of Blogging Service like Technorati, Feedburner, Moreover… etc which tracks weblogs for new content, But you will have to notify about the update by pinging.
Pinging is very important because once you ping, their crawlers will crawl your and index your pages, therefore increasing your blogs popularity
Example: Feedburner will update your feed only if you ping it.
Pinging is quite easy, So here are the various methods to ping:
Use one click pinging services like Pingomatic, Pingoat, Blogflux Pinger, Feedshark…. etc, But I don’t prefer this method because sometimes I have to wait 2 – 5 minutes for these pinging services to finish. You can also use Feedburner’s PingShot, however you will still have to ping Feedburner ;D
Or
If your using Wordpress to run your blog, then you can make use of Wordpress’s built-in ping function. Just go to Options >> Writing under your Admin Panel and fill XML-RPC Ping URLs under Update Services (found at the end of this post). But it takes lot of time to publish a post, since wordpress has to ping every URL after publishing
Note: Other Blogging Platform also have similar function.
Or
Do you publish post using Windows Live Writer? Then its still easier, just select Tools >> Preferences >> Ping and fill XML-RPC Ping URLs. And it will automatically ping these URLs while you publish posts. Qumana, Blogjet and Ecto also support XML-RPC Pings.
