AOL launches Free Antivirus Software
In an effort to make virus protection a fundamental right rather than a risk, AOL has announced the launch of a free virus scanner called Active Virus Shield.
Active Virus Shield’s backend is based on Kaspersky’s Technology and it includes real time scanning of files and emails. The virus definitions are released hourly and it will automatically update itself every hour. For IE users it’s packed along with a toolbar that provides real time security while browsing and other features such as pop up blocked etc…
I welcome this good move by AOL. Hopefully it will reduce the use of pirated Security Suites and monopoly of huge players in this market. However, I’ll stick on to my good old Open Source Antivirus ClamAV due to several factors like GUI (I like simple GUI).
