How to Recover files from Scratched or Damaged Media

Last night one of my friend asked me if he could recover his music CD which was heavily scratched.

You can try to use Dead Disk Doctor which allows copying files from scratched or damaged CD, DVD disks, unreadable Floppy and Hard Drives or other media. It replaces lost data with random bytes reading files by expandable blocks.

Short Tutorial on Recovering Files from Scratched or Damaged Media

Step 1. Download Dead Disk Doctor and Clean the disk with cotton wool fabrics, insert disk in to DVD drive, run Dead Disk Doctor application. In appeared window choose “I want to copy files from damaged media to a specific folder” line, double clicking on it , or click “Next >” button .

Step 2. Choose source drive on left part of the window clicking on it’s icon. And in a main part of the window select files or folders which you want to copy.

Use Shift or Ctrl buttons to select a number of files or folders. Click “Next”. Use double mouse click on folder name to enter it.

Step 3. Selecting destination drive and folder, to proceed copying selected files. Here every thing just same like in a previous window, plus you can create a new folders clicking on specified icon..

Step 4. Copying files. This process is fully automatic and do not require attention except when coping file is already exist, not enough room on hard drive or drive is not ready.
