Schedule Downloads during the “Night Free” – For Dataone users

Here is a simple trick which lets you download during the “Night Free” period without harming your sleep

STEP 1: Open a notepad, paste “rasdial <connection name> <Username> <password>”
eg. rasdial dataone_broadband mario_pant mario

STEP 2: Make another file named “disconnect.bat” and type in it “rasdial /disconnect” (there is a space between rasdial and /disconnect and no “”) and save it in that directory as the first file….

STEP 3: Goto Start>All Programs>Accesories>System Tool>Scheduled Tasks
when opened click on “Add scheduled task” click next (it will hang for a moment or two) then a list of progs will be displayed.. don’t panic that ur files arn’t listed…. click on browse and point to the dialup.bat file….. then set the schedule by following the instructions…. do the same for disconnect… give the time values correctly (ie. in my case 2:10AM to 7:50AM….the BSNL clock is 2 mins behind)……

STEP 4:  <”add scheduled task”> then chose the prog u wish to run from the list and follow the instructions….

Happy Downloading and a Sound Sleep

Good Idea. If someone donates 400 bucks then i;ll go for it. Till then I have to hang on with Home 500 (That to I got my A/c upgraded today).

Hey How long can u keep the TYPE 1 ADSL Modem that they give…?? i mean can u keep it ON for like 10 hrs continuously…????

  • http://tech-buzz.net Thilak

Shrinath: I almost keep the modem running round the clock (24 x 7) and nothing went wrong :D

  • sri

well in my modem i dont connect like a dial -up..i simply ON the modem and i get connected…..can i convert this auto dial up into a manual one…??and get some sleep…

  • http://tech-buzz.net Thilak

Sri: Well, configuring it like dialup doesn’t reduce speed or whatever. I always felt it useful!

  • sri

how do i go about configuring it like a dial up?? my bsnl guy said thats not possible in my modem…it a smartax mt 882…

  • http://tech-buzz.net Thilak

Sri: I use the same modem. To configure your modem as a dailup one, simple hold the reset button behind your modem using a ball point pen or something, until all the lights switch off and turn on again.

Then go to control panel and setup a new connection

  • sri

thanks for the help thilak….the thing is that now i dont get an amber light at all….net works just fine…but as soon as i on my modem the link led reached green and doesnt budge….

  • Ashwin

hey can someone brief me about the home 500 plan…and is it free at night..if so from wen 2 wen??

Ashwin: Yeah BSNL 500 offers free usage between 2 AM to 8 AM

  • Shrinath K

Hey someone asked abt the AUTOMATIC connecting Modem when turned On…….

well actually that happens due to the Modem’s internal Dialling Procedure……..

IF U R NOT USING a wireless modem, then you can configue your modem to the normal dialling thing……..

FOR MOST MODEMS, this works, giv it a try..

open your Browser and type http://192.168.1.1

there you can set your default modem properties….

I SAID THIS WORKS FOR MOST..(may not work with all)
MODEMS……and they SHOULD NOT BE WIRELESS modems…..

    Thanks…

  • http://tech-buzz.net Thilak

Shrinath K: Actually, I’m using a combination of the modem provided by BSNL and WiFi router to use Home 900 connection to both to my laptop and desktop simultaneously. And my WiFi router can auto dial!

  • Shrinath

hey thilak, yes even i know the router can auto dial…

i sent that message to STOP your router frm auto dialling,

cause someone (some SRI..) asked that his modem automatically connects as soon as it is turned on……..

so i sent that msg for him…

    anyway, thanks for the reply…
