BSNL Broadband Bandwidth Calculator

I know this is too lame, but some of my classmates and friends were asking for this. So here goes

If you are using Dataone, broadband internet connection from the BSNL, then you would already know that BSNL offers free unlimited bandwidth between 2 AM and 8 AM IST. During these hours you can download without any limit and the bandwidth will not be counted.

You can use your internet connection during other times also, but you will be charged if you exceed your maximum download / upload limit. BSNL currently does not provide any option to track bandwidth usage for free hours and paid usage hours separately.

Shaplus Dataone Bandwidth helps you to find the free bandwidth usage and paid / unused bandwidth usage for your broadband connection so that you can use internet accordingly.

  • Click on the “Service Records” and select the month you want to calculate the bandwidth usage and click “OK”.
  • Open the unzipped file DataOne-Bandwidth 2.4.exe.
  • Select the tab “Non Password Version”. Click on the button “Check bandwidth usage”.

You will see the total bandwidth in Megabytes and Gigabytes. There is also an option called “Exclude free time usage (2 AM to 8 AM) which will show you only the bandwidth used in the paid slot.

This way you could use your broadband internet hours accordingly.

Hey guys and gals ! I am using BSNL’s Home 900 Plan which offers Unlimited usage with a speed of 256 kbps and initially you will need to pay 900+1800 for the Broadband modem if you are buying the modem from the BSNL because lately they have stopped supplying Broadband modem’s on rent . Initially I have faced connection problems but the broadband technician I know is good and fixed the issues. Its been more than two months now and its satisfying ….

    Hi Folks
well every one seems to ask one thing , is browseing also a part of download THE BIG ANSWER TO IT IS YES , well its a techy thing to answer in short , but here it goes , when you browse some content is always downloaded coz of that you see the sites so the more content in sites the more you consume bandwidth.

  • Vikas

Ok listen up guys… I Have the Home 500 Plan.. i know its free from 2.00 am to 8.00 am.. i jus wanna know, whether,

    1. Do you have to SWITCH ON the modem only after 2.00 a.m. n SWITCH OFF the modem before 8.00 a.m. for the usage to be free.?
As in, If i download something for 12 hrs, “Say Midnight 12 to Afternoon 12″, Is the usage between 2.00 a.m. n 8.00 a.m. counted as free…?

    2. The huge reason as to why i am asking the whole question is because, I asked the above mentioned Question to a BSNL Customer Care Exec n She told me that, “you have to switch on n off your modem within the free hrs OR ELSE IT GETS CHARGED”

It would be of Great help if any of u out there can help me out.

  • http://tech-buzz.net Thilak

Vikas: I don’t think so. Before making a switch to the unlimited scheme, I used to download without resetting the modem. It never got charged for me. All lamers in BSNL customer care

  • Rahul Rajeev

Hai Malini this is for you

In 250 plan, they give upload/download limit as 1 GB.It is counted when you visit a page u r downloading its contents .(Standard webpages would be under 100kb & flash fbased will be upto 1 mb).Girl when u r chatting u r senting data, like when u write on MS word & save u could find the size of
what u have written this is what you will be tranferring to
net on chatting.1GB is upload + download . see chating takes a lot of MB yea,if u chat more often go for unlimited plans.See i would recomend u this page:

How to check usage of internet (Downloading) for Home250 plan?

  • http://techcruser.blogspot.com Ankit Agrawal

Pardon me folks, but this thing i do not seem to understand. How can such software work?

I believe that for such software to work,

    1. I have to enter my username and password on some “form” other than the bsnl portal form, from which this info could be directed to the bsnl portal for a “background login” like in a mail client
    OR
    2. The said software obtains my username and pw from my hard-drive or memory directly without asking me
    OR
    3. BSNl should be offering some special (undocumented) service wherein it provides everybody’s service records openly without any need for a formal login.

My doubts are based on this simple reasoning.. … If my username and pw are private information, how could anyone else know it without me telling them?

  • http://techcruser.blogspot.com Ankit Agrawal

Opps .. sorrryy,,,, im in hurry n forget to read the full post thats y commented all this.. ..

this is non password version.. Hope this works fine..

Alright 4 all u bsnl ppl who want 2 kno abt the..

    250 plan- Well.. 1st n foremost U dont have the night unlimited(2a.m- 8a.m)

    Hi,
I just like to know that total how many computers support internet from one any type of Broadband connection.
    Thak You

  • http://tech-buzz.net Thilak

Gautom: With standard installation, you can just connect one computer. However, if you purchase a router separately, you can connect any number of computers. However, the speed will be uniformly distributed, so it doesn’t make any sense connecting anything more than 3 or 4 computers.

Unlimited plans dont actually have any limits. So you dont have to worry. Anyways, unlimited means no limits right. If they impose any limits, you can easily sue them.

About the plan details and how to choose, all information is available in bsnl plans page.

    Lenin
    http://www.lenxworld.blogspot.com

  • Niranjan

    Lenin
Thats true..Unlimited is no limits…But still thr r 2 plans in HOME UL 900 and UL900Plus
I dont mind getting slower speed(256k insted 2Mbps) coz no limit of dwn load so let the download take 15min where it will take 5 for 2Mbps

  • Shreeraj

hey, taking note of the wierd happy hours (2 – 8am) can anyone suggest me some tools or softwares that can automatically dial a connection and disconnect according to a scheduler?

According to my experience, these other cable and wireless internet providers are not very reliable with speed as compared with BSNL. I agree that there isn’t much support from BSNL but frankly speaking it is not required given the well established network of phonelines.

  • http://tech-buzz.net Thilak

Shreeraj: We’ve covered that as well. Check out this link:

http://duf.sourceforge.net/ is a very neat tool to understand actual Dataone usage. The Billing “tab” is instrumental in choosing right plan based on my usage.

  • relaxedesi

    Hello, there!
I have had Icenet (an Ahmedabad company) as my server for last six years. I started with dial up and then upgraded to broadband.
Lately, the company has been very indifferent in their service. The speed is nothing to write home about either.
Since my wife has just acqired a laptop, a friend suggested BSNL unlimited WIFI plan at 900 pm.
I have heard so mnay horror stories about BSNL tech support – or the lack of it! – I am scared to go with them. Is it really all that bad?
I am in Vallabh Vidya Nagar, near Ananad (Amul HQ), Gujarat. My phoneline is good, lineman here is cooperative and the neighbourhood does not get digged up every otherday.
All you experts out there, please advise!

Guess I should try going through their Terms & Conditions. Who knows if they did put some cap on unlimited pack ?

Maybe its like, “I hereby declare that I’ll donate two of my kidneys before I sue BSNL on overbilling”. Lol. That would be really screwed. ^_^

    Moose:
Even I am in home 900+ Plan and in earlier day I was facing the same problem as to what you r facing now. I would suggest to change your DNS Entries.
OpenDNS is a better DNS, free to all. OpenDNS uses its distributed network of DNS servers to speed up your Internet experience, increase reliability, improve security and make DNS smarter for users all over the world. OpenDNS is a zero downtime service.

    OpenDNS servers : 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220

Goto Control Pannel > Network Connections and find your connection under “LAN or High-Speed Internet” and change the DNS servers for that.

Click link below for info. on how to change the DNS server setting.
