Search engines crawl the web using a type of software called spiders. These spiders when they find a new site or blog they visit the links in your blog thereby getting more information about your blog. These search bots revisit your blog or site at frequent intervals in search of new and quality content.
If you have started a new blog or if your blog was not indexed by google then here is quick sure way to get noticed. You need to add your blog URL to Google Sitemaps and allow google to verify that you are the owner of your blog.
The following step by step method will help blogspot users
1. Visit Google Sitemaps and login using your Gmail login username and password.
2. After you login you could see “Add Site”, fill up your blog URL over there. Now click the Ok button. Your blog is added to your account.
3. Click on the link “Add a sitemap”. Now you will see a drop down box. Select the one mentioning “Add General Web sitemap”. Three selection boxes followed by some text are shown.
4. Select all three checkboxes. In the space that follows write your atom / XML feed URL. Normally it would be
http://yourblog.blogspot.com/atom.xml
5. Click on the button “Add Web Sitemap”. Now a new page is shown. Click on “My sites” link on top of the page.
6. Did you notice the “Verify” link? Click it. There is another dropdown menu. Select “Add a META tag”.
7. A small code is shown. Just copy that code and paste it immediately after the <head> in your blog source code. Republish your blog.
8. Now select the checkbox near “I’ve added the META tag….” and click on verify button.
9. Now you will see a tick mark next to your site URL. If you see this tick mark, then it means your sitemap is verified.
By accomplishing the above mentioned procedure you could make sure that your weblog gets crawled as and when you update it.
